"When stories die, the spirits of ancestors die along with them."

(Two Clouds)

She:kon sewakwé:kon! (“Hello everyone!”)

The fourth Stand With Two Clouds Week begins today. It is difficult to wrap my mind and heart around the fact that my beloved son, Muriyd Abdullah Muhammad Williams (Niishwak Akumahkwak/Two Clouds) has been gone from this world for so very long.

However, although this week is to honor and commemorate Two Clouds, it not simply about remembering one man. It is about learning to embrace the values he truly lived by, and carrying them forward in our own lives throughout the year and beyond.

Remember a loved one who helped you find your way.

Document and archive your family history.

Record an elder's story and contemplate their life.

Start a personal journal for your descendants.

Cook a grandparent's recipe with relatives.

Plant a garden and include healing herbs native to your region.

Visit a sacred place and honor it with tobacco and prayer.

Begin learning common phrases in an ancestral language.

Learn about the people who built your community- where they came from and challenges they faced.

Honor the land defenders, protectors, and ancestors who sacrificed to help make our lives better.

Spend time in remembrance of the One Creator.

Memories are resistance!

When we remember, preserve, teach, and pass forward what matters, we resist erasure and strengthen the generations yet to come.

How will you stand with Two Clouds this week/year?
